Description

Cissus Repens Extract is part of the grape wine family and one of the best known out of 800 species in the world. The plant is native to tropical climates in Southeast Asia, such as Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. The plant has a long history in these cultures and it remains popular in traditional medicine, such as khao-yen nuer and khao-yen tai.

Scientists have identified multiple useful polyphenols and terpenes in cissus repens, such as ursolic acid, sitosterol, lupeol, asiatic acid, friedelin, epifriedelanol, and d-α-Tocopherol. A study comparing four of the most known plants in this family, including quadrangularis, showed the cissus repens variant contained the highest amounts of Beta-Sitosterol, Phytol Isomers, 4-Vinylphenol, along with a fair amount of Vitamin E.

The plant flavonoids in cissus repens alleviate inflammatory pain, as they show anti-inflammatory effects from scavenging ROS and reducing proinflammatory cytokines. The roots and stems are used for rheumatic pain, bone fractures, tumours, long-term coughs, and indigestion.
